“I was very pleased to see the 1 million milestone on XRP Ledger, but I think we will blast through 10 million … [and] may even get to 100 million within the next couple of years given the pace of development with agents and how the infrastructure continues to get better,” RippleX Head of Engineering Ayo Akinyele told The Block. He anticipates that the number of agentic transactions on XRP Ledger will rise quickly after recently surpassing one million.
Instead of payments that are manually authorized one at a time, agentic payments are those that are started by AI-powered software acting on behalf of people. Crypto firms see a chance to give these agents digital wallets so they may make programmable payments onchain, 24/7, without using credit cards or conventional bank accounts.
“The main focus, obviously, is making it frictionless for AI agents to pay for APIs and digital services on XRP Ledger because of the strengths that we offer from a settlement perspective — so, three to five seconds,” Akinyele stated. Developers’ vision of a world in which AI agents autonomously pay for data, computing power, and other services needed to complete assigned tasks has increased interest in the technology. “Our transaction costs are predictable, and we were designed with payments in mind from the beginning.”
Dozens of significant businesses have recently joined the x402 Foundation, including Ripple. Ripple is a premium member alongside Coinbase, Circle, AWS, Google, Mastercard, Stripe, and Visa. x402, which was first created by Coinbase, enables AI agents and apps to pay for APIs and other internet services automatically.
Akinyele continued, “Our partnership with the x402 Foundation is incredibly significant because we can change the governance, we can shape the technical parts of how this agentic economy gets built out.”
According to t54, the majority of activity on XRP Ledger has so far been payments for APIs and data, despite the fact that many proponents of agentic payments envision a future in which AI agents are buying anything from processing power to tangible items.
Chandler Fang, co-founder of t54, stated, “We are also in the midst of onboarding real-world merchants through ecosystem partners, which will enable agents to purchase physical products and services over XRPL.” “We are actively rolling out it as one of the next main areas of growth.” Ripple is supporting the tech infrastructure startup t54.
