Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were detained in Miami on Saturday as British authorities sought their extradition on charges of rape and sex trafficking. Their social media empire, which promotes wealth, male dominance, and misogyny, has made them among the most divisive online figures in the world.
According to agency spokesperson Brady McCarron, the brothers were apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service on a sealed warrant, putting the United States at the heart of a global legal drama that has extended from Romania to Britain, according to The Associated Press.
The brothers are accused of raping and trafficking women between 2010 and 2017. British prosecutors said on Saturday that they were requesting the boys’ extradition.
In 2016, the dual British and American citizens relocated to Romania. They were detained there in 2022 on suspicion of taking part in plans to entice women for sex. They refuted the accusations, and due to procedural and legal issues, the Romanian case has not progressed.
They were permitted to depart Romania last year and took a private jet to Florida.
According to a person familiar with the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss delicate law enforcement operations, the brothers are anticipated to appear in Miami’s federal court early next week.
The brothers were accused of abusing women in a region north of London, where they were raised, according to the ongoing allegations in the United Kingdom. According to their attorneys, they refuted the accusations.
In a phone conversation on Saturday night, Joseph McBride, the Tate brothers’ lawyer, stated that he has not been able to contact with his clients but referred to the new allegations from the United Kingdom as “filth and slander” that are meant to thwart the brothers’ defamation claims in the United States.McBride stated, “They are going above and beyond to ensure that these men never get their day in court.
“We are certain that Andrew and Tristan Tate will be set free as soon as a capable judge reviews the evidence and the Department of Justice addresses this flagrant misuse of its own power. America does not handle the political dirty job for Britain.
In 2016, the 39-year-old Andrew Tate made his public debut as a contestant on the British reality television program “Big Brother.” When a video purported to show Tate abusing a woman, he was kicked from the show. He is an outspoken admirer of US President Donald Trump, as is his 38-year-old brother Tristan Tate.
Despite having more than 10 million followers on X, Andrew Tate has been banned from websites including YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram for using hate speech. His remarks that women who are sexually attacked should take some of the blame for their attacks, graphic depictions of how he may attack women, and criticism of those who seek mental health care are among his most commonly denounced statements.
The Tate brothers have continuously refuted claims of mistreatment and human trafficking, arguing that their violent and misogynistic remarks were either taken out of context or meant to be humorous.
The U.K.’s Crown Prosecution Services said in a statement on Saturday that it was filing 38 new accusations pertaining to “four further victims” in addition to the allegations that were made public against the brothers in 2025, which involved alleged offenses against three women.
