BitPay obtains Dutch licensing under MiCA, plans to bump stablecoin payments

Although many crypto companies had been attempting to secure approvals under MiCA before the July 1 deadline, some of the biggest exchanges, like Binance, abandoned initial efforts with EU regulators.

BitPay, a cryptocurrency payment provider, declared that it had obtained a license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, enabling it to conduct business under the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework in member states of the European Union.

BitPay announced on Thursday that the Dutch financial authorities’ acceptance of the firm as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) will enable it to expand its services in the region, including stablecoin and cryptocurrency payments. Following a July 1 mandate that all organizations providing crypto-related services be subject to regulation, the company was among the most recent to receive a license under MiCA.

“Europe is one of the most crucial locations for the future of payments,” stated Jonathan Arler, the European CEO of BitPay.
